Scottish Fire and Rescue Service Community Asset Register (CAR)
This is a register of volunteers who have a particular asset or skill which they feel could be used to support emergency services and responders at an incident.
Examples include someone with a boat who could be called in times of flooding to assist evacuate people from houses to a place of safety. Similarly someone with a 4X4 may be used in times of severe snow to transport vulnerable people to a community hall.
Unfortunately, it is impossible to gauge how often a volunteer will be requested. Mobilisations can be determined by severe weather, a specific type of asset/skill required for the incident, the emergency services availability and resources in the area and the location of the volunteer.
It must be stressed that even when someone has registered, they are under no obligation to mobilise when they are called by the Operations Control centre.
For anyone to register an interest and request a form please contact and a registration form will be sent to be completed along with guidelines on how to complete the registration process. Or use this email address to contact CAR directly.

Potager Garden
The Potager Garden is a small community garden in Bowton Road in Kinross, KY13 8EQ. It is a registered charity run by volunteers, and a main aim is to give education to school children about plants, gardening and the environment. A P5 class from Kinross Primary school visits during the summer term, and they plant vegetables in the L shaped beds, and these are tended by volunteers, until the children return to harvest them in September. We also propagate potted plants for sale to fund our activities. The garden is also open to the public during the summer.
We have a small friendly group of volunteers who meet at the garden on Monday mornings throughout the spring and summer, who help with the maintenance of the garden, according to their own availability, interests and skills.
We would welcome any new volunteers who would like to help with any gardening activities, or learn about growing plants, fruit and vegetables in an environmentally friendly way. Activities can include potting and pricking out seedlings, weeding, tying up plants, and watering.
If you would like more information about our volunteering opportunities, please contact the Convenor, Amanda James on 07963 476803 or email
